From vibrant learner-led groups to electrifying cultural events, learners’ rich backgrounds, traditions and stories are celebrated.
Cultural groups are open to all learners regardless of one’s whakapapa. The groups are an authentic way to learn one’s own, or others’, languages, tikanga and cultures, to develop collaboration, wisdom and resilience.
The groups are also a vehicle for leadership development with many group leaders also holding school-wide leadership positions.
Polyfest is the biggest annual event for learners to share their culture. Groups also perform at local schools and community events.
Maori and Pasifika Success Awards are held annually in September and October to acknowledge learner connections, character, confidence and competence in class, cultural groups and the wider school community.
Currently, the following cultural groups are representing Alfriston College:
- Punjabi
- Indian
- Chinese
