Wellbeing Services
The Wellbeing team is led by Rachel Caine, who collaborates with a team of counsellors and youth workers. As a kura we endeavour to support the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of all our learners and are very much aware that this is also a crucial part of the learning process. If a learner’s mind and emotions are not in a calm state then learning will simply not happen. We are here to walk alongside our learners through the difficult times and experiences that occur and to help guide them through a healing process with validation and psychoeducation.
We also work with and refer to many outside agencies to further support the wellbeing of our learners.
Our Services
Te Kaha o Roto – Building Inner Strength
We offer counselling, advocacy, restorative conversations and mentoring. These services are available for Alfriston College learners, whanau and associated community members during school hours.
Confidentiality
Anything said to a member of the wellbeing team stays between them and the learner or whanau they are working with. There are however, some exceptions:
- If a learner is a harm to themselves or to others, or if they are in danger themselves then this information has to be shared with a third party and the risk addressed. This is non-negotiable.
- If a counsellor is seeking legal, ethical or peer advice on a difficult issue they may need to explain the situation to a third party to ensure there is an appropriate level of response, action and safety for client and counsellor. Permission will be asked for in this case.
